The Chocolate Advent Calendar is as much part of Christmas as a Christmas tree is. Starting at the beginning of December an advent calendar allows you to think about Christmas each day. It builds up the tension towards the day itself and ensures you’ve got to think about it every single day.
For children it’s an essential part of the waiting game that they’re so impatient for Santa’s visit that they can use the number aspect to count the days down.
There are cheap advent calendars available in the supermarket that are fine for the kids, but if you want something special then you can treat yourself to one of these delicious ones from hotel chocolate!

Chocolate Traditions at Christmas
If you’ve ever wondered how much a part of Christmas chocolate is then you need to consider how you use it in your own home.
Big tins of chocolates are available widely in the supermarkets. They’re delicious mixes of toffees, soft centres and caramels. They’re now part of the UK’s Christmas tradition! They make lovely gifts to give friends and neighbours and their shiny coloured wrappers are very cheerful.
Many people buy their children chocolate money each year. It’s a little present that they can open on Christmas day and nibble away before the main dinner. Giving gold coins is probably seen as a good luck charm as much as the giving the chocolate. Shiny gold is considered good luck in Feng Shui.
Decorating the Christmas tree with chocolate decorations is also a family tradition in many homes. The eating of it can only start from Christmas day though – that’s the rules in most houses, if only to preserve the tree looking nice for some photos.
The pre Christmas days can be filled with chocolate too. With advent calendars being a way of having an excuse to eat chocolate every day! You start your advent calendar on December 1st and each day you open a window revealing a piece of chocolate. Some calendars have picture scenes to reveal too and some just concentrate on the chocolate aspect!
Giving people a box of chocolates as a gift at Christmas is a good idea on so many levels. Everyone loves chocolates and there are so many options. Plain, dark chocolate is a favourite for some. With high cocoa percentages available, dark chocolate has got darker over the last few years and is now considered a true delicacy.
You can get mixed boxes which make for a lovely gift for people who just love all chocolate and aren’t that fussed about any particular type. Some people love boozy chocolates and for them there are the liqueur chocolates, champagne truffles, and spirit flavoured ganache centres that are mouth wateringly good!
