If you have a dog don't put chocolate treats on the lower branches. Much as they might like eating chocolate it's not good for them. A better idea is to not leave them alone with the tree!
Theme it with one colour - use lots of decorations the same colour to make the tree look really cheerful and coordinated. Use two colours if you like, silver and gold look fantastic together, red and gold are our favourites.
Make the tree the centre piece of your Christmas decorations. Put it in pride of place, so it can be seen through your windows if you like to show it off!
If you hate decorating trees then get one like the pre-lit Crystal leaf tree as it doesn't need anything doing to it, it's already done!
A fake green tree is very traditional though, won't drop needles and is easy to dress.
Mind you don't put lights right next to chocolate!
